Our Founder - Karen J. Shaw B.Ed. (Hons.), Dip. RSA (Sp.L.D)

Karen has been an educational specialist and teacher for over twenty years in both the public and private sectors, teaching in both Europe and North America.

Karen started her teaching career as a regular classroom teacher in the elementary setting. She soon realised that she wanted to help the students who did not learn easily by the normal teaching methods. She wanted to find ways of reaching these students whom often struggle through the school system without recognition of their difficulties. She thus became involved in Special Education and soon specialised in Specific Learning Difficulties.

Karen went on to study a post graduate course in Specific Learning Difficulties. She wanted to help those students of average or above intelligence who found it very difficult to acquire academic skills using the normal methods.

In 1992 Karen obtained her specialist qualification from the Royal Society of Arts in London England with Distinction.
Since then she has been assessing students with Specific Learning Difficulties, providing detailed evaluations of their difficulties, developing Individual Learning Programs and tutoring the students using a multi-sensory and structured techniques. Through the success of the above methods Karen has changed the lives of many students with Specific Learning Difficulties.

Chepstow Learning Services was founded to provide a much needed up to date information service for Specific Learning Difficulty students and their families.
